Adhesion is the ability of a coating, such as paints and varnishes, to adhere to a substrate, known as'substrate adhesion', or to attach to numerous coats in the system, known as 'inter-coat adhesion'. To work properly, coatings must cling to the substrate to which they are applied, which can be metal, concrete, wood, and other materials.
